Then I put my matchlocks on the walls in the keep. With a two their fort what I tend to do is put my Garrison Yari Ashigaru in spear wall and Samurai Retainers on the second tier. If they have a bow heavy army and I only have a single teir, I will almost always deploy outside of the fort unless they have a melee-heavy army. Also the AI will usually split it's force to surround you, if you can keep a few junk units back to keep the square from getting captured you can use your main force to overwhelm them before they can reinforce. This means that even if your melee troops are superior in every way they will get ruined by the hail of arrows. You may get defence and massive accuracy bonuses from being inside the fort but The AI tends to bring bow-heavy armies. If you are fighting on a single tier fort, sally forth. Think we missed one?
